1. What still images and video each do

Before you produce the creative, check what still images and video each bring
▼Still images
- 〇 Lower production cost than video
- 〇 Easy to make separate versions for different claims
- 〇 You can always display the message you most want to emphasise
- × Limited in the amount of information it can convey
▼Video
- 〇 Conveys far more information than a still image
- 〇 Direction and effects can draw attention
- 〇 Lets you give the ad a narrative
- × The ad placements it can run on are limited
- × Costs more to produce than a still image
2. Delivery formats for still images and video
LINE advertising has five delivery formats.
- Card
- Square
- Vertical
- Carousel
- Image + text

Card

A format for still images (1200px × 628px) and video (16:9).
It works on placements such as Talk list, Timeline and LINE NEWS.
(For video, Talk list is the only placement not supported.)
Square

A format for still images (1080px × 1080px) and video (1:1).
It works on placements such as Talk list, Timeline and LINE NEWS.
(For video, Talk list is the only placement not supported.)
Vertical

A video-only format (9:16 portrait).
It is supported on Timeline only.
When shown in the Timeline the top and bottom are cropped, and the whole frame only becomes visible on full-screen playback.
So take care not to put text in the areas that are hidden.
Carousel

An ad in which images (1080px × 1080px) slide across.
You can include up to 10 images, and interested users can swipe through them.
Image + text

A format shown as an image with text.
It appears in the Talk list.
In the admin screen it is labelled ‘Image (small)’.
3. Submission requirements

4. The rich ad placement at the top of the Talk list
From 6 September 2021, the ad at the very top of the Talk list, ‘ Talk Head View Custom‘ has been available.
It was previously called ‘Talk Head View’; this is an improved version.

▼What Talk Head View Custom offers
- ・Can be shown to a single user up to 10 times over the run period
- ・Targeting can be set in the same way as for LINE advertising
- ・You can set the run period freely, from 1 to 31 days
- ・CPM-based delivery, with the budget set freely above a minimum spend
- ・A rich-looking placement
So you can design delivery flexibly around the product and the campaign.
You can also adjust the volume to fit your budget.
Because it looks richer than the ‘text + image’ format, you can also expect a lift in brand awareness.
However, running ads on Talk Head View Custom requires between 10 and 40 million yen a day, so it will be hard going unless you have a substantial sum available.
▼How to run ads on Talk Head View Custom
The broad steps are as follows.
①Enquiry
②Review of the company and the product
③Provisional booking and advance creative review (optional)
④Once a case passes review, you can provisionally book your preferred run date.
⑤Creative submission / review
⑥Full review of the creative and the landing page.
⑦The ads go live
▼For detailed product information and submission requirements, see the official guidelines.

5. [Recommended] Combining banners
We recommend using both still images and video for your ad banners. The official LINE for Business site says the same.
The reasons are as follows.
- Some placements cannot take video, and some cannot take still images.
- Having both still images and video gives you more options when managing the advertising.
Video costs more to produce than still images, but it is worth bringing in.
6. In closing
This article has covered the requirements for LINE advertising banners, both still images and video.
If you commission still images or video without checking the format details and submission requirements, you may well end up with extra revisions later.
Check them properly before you start work on your banners.
